PATH Fare - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQS)
1. Q: When does the PATH fare increase take effect?
A: The fare increase is effective at 12:01 a.m., Sunday, March 2, 2008. QuickCard and SmartLink Card trips purchased prior to March 2nd will be honored with no loss in trips. QuickCard customers are reminded that unused trips expire on the date printed on the back of the card.
2. Q: What is the new PATH fare?
A: The new one-way cash fare is $1.75 per trip. The 10-trip SmartLink Card or QuickCard is $13; the 20- trip SmartLink Card or QuickCard is $26, and the 40-trip SmartLink Card or QuickCard is $52. Customers who purchase these cards pay $1.30 per trip, more than a 25% discount off the full cash fare. The 11-trip QuickCard has been eliminated and replaced with a new 10-trip QuickCard and SmartLink Card.
PATH has also introduced a 1- Day Unlimited Pass at a cost of $6, a 7-Day Unlimited Pass at a cost of $18, and a 30-Day Unlimited Pass at a cost of $54. PATH's one-way Senior fare, offered to riders 65 years of age or older, will remain at $1.00 and is payable ONLY with the PATH Senior SmartLink Card.
3. Q: Will MTA MetroCards continue to be accepted on the PATH system?
A: Yes. The MTA Pay-Per-Ride MetroCard continues to be accepted on the PATH system. MetroCard bonuses or discounts are consistent with New York City Transit fare policy, and subject to change by the MTA. Please note that PATH accepts only Pay-Per-Ride MetroCards. PATH does not accept MTA Unlimited (time-based) Passes, disabled farecards, senior farecards, student farecards, or other types of MetroCard.
4. Q: Will any QuickCard or SmartLink Card trips purchased prior to March 2nd be honored at the old fare rate?
A: Yes. Any unused trips purchased prior to the fare increase will be honored until used.
5. Q: Can I still use the MetroCard I purchased prior to the fare increase?
A: Yes. Any Pay-Per-Ride MetroCard with remaining value can be used to pay the PATH fare. An amount of $1.75 will be deducted with each use.
