The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey has begun the rehabilitation of the Holland Tunnel 14th Street Exit
Roadway. Improvements will be made to the roadway, sidewalks, curbs, drainage, lighting, traffic signs, and signals along 14th Street from
the New Jersey exit portal to Jersey Avenue, as well as Jersey Avenue between 12th and 14th Streets. Fourteenth Street between Provost
Street and Marin Boulevard will be widened to two lanes, providing additional access for north and Newport Centre Mall-bound traffic.

Gardner M. Bishop, Inc. and Joseph M. Sanzari, Inc., and is scheduled to be completed by fall 2005.
BENEFITS
- This project will not only keep 14th Street and adjacent streets in a state-of-good-repair, it will help improve conditions for businesses and residents in the surrounding community.
- A new signal system, along with new regulatory and advisory signage, will provide enhanced traffic management of westbound Holland Tunnel traffic flow, as well as cross-town Jersey City traffic.
- The removal the center islands along each intersection of 14th Street will reduce the number of motor vehicles accidents by eliminating current merge restrictions.
