Holland Tunnel

The first Hudson River vehicular tunnel was opened in 1927. Considered an outstanding engineering achievement, whose principles are employed to this day, the facility was cited as a National Historic Civil and Mechanical Engineering Landmark in 1984.

Route 139 - 12th and 14th Streets Viaduct Reconstruction

NJ Department of Transportation ( NJDOT) has begun construction on the Route 139 roadways in Jersey City thatlead into the Holland Tunnel. Although major impacts are not anticipated at this time, future work will likely causesignificant delays. For project and contact information on Route 139, go to
www.state.nj.us/transportation/commuter/roads/jcviaducts/ to view NJDOT's Web site. Using carpools and the New Jersey Turnpike Extension in Hudson County will reduce delays.
