Beginning the weekend of February 15th and 16th, PATH service in and out of Exchange Place and World Trade Center stations was suspended to allow for post-Sandy resiliency work, the installation of Positive Train Control technology, and on-going security project work. Weekend service at these stations has continued to be suspended in subsequent weekends, and will continue on weekends with the exception of major holidays in 2014.
Similar to previous weekend closures in November 2013, these weekend outages provided workers with 48-hour blocks of time to complete a significant amount of work that cannot be accomplished when passenger service is operating at these stations.
In addition to the weekend station closures, extensive work has begun on signal equipment in other areas of the system, including between Newark and Journal Square stations.
We wanted to provide the PATH community with an update on work accomplished over weekends in February and March.
WEEKEND WORK ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Restoration of damaged tiles at Exchange Place platform.
Workers clean salt residue from the walls of Tunnel F.
A new R2X signal (PTC) installed next to an old signal.
We thank you for your patience while we continue these very important projects that will reduce train delays and improve service. Work progress updates will continue to be posted regularly.
