Intermodal Connections

Our airports are integrated with a massive logistics and distribution system that provides efficient coordination between wings and wheels. Your cargo will move from air to surface transit smoothly, and -- with 3,500 domestic and international movements daily at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and LaGuardia Airport (LGA) -- your cargo will move from its origin to its final destination in a matter of hours.

Surface Transit Network

Through the region's convenient surface access network, you can easily reach:

  • Other airports in the region for continuing flight connections.
  • 18 million consumers in the immediate area.
  • A vast network of highways and rail connecting you to every marketplace in North America.
  • Stoplight-free highway connections to Chicago, Washington, D.C., Dallas, and even Montreal.

U.S. exporters commonly ship goods by truck from as far away as Dallas and Miami to our airports for onward shipment by air.

Over 100 trucking companies serve our airports, providing short-, medium- and long-haul trucking services. They are supplemented by a vast fleet of express vehicles designed for: pickup/delivery, on-airport transfer and intra-airport hauling. And all operate with the same eye-on-the-clock service as the airlines.

Your air carrier, agent or forwarder can assist you in securing reliable surface transport for your cargo.

If you operate your own trucks, or are comfortable with your own trucking arrangements, you can easily work with any carrier, warehouse, Foreign-Trade Zone or local/regional trucking company terminal adjacent to or throughout the region.
