George Washington Bridge (GWB)

Direction Dates Closures
TO NEW YORK (EASTBOUND) Friday, August 27, 11:59 p.m. until 8 a.m. Saturday morning Two of three eastbound upper level expressway lanes (under Broadway) will be closed. (Trans-Manhattan Expressway Overpass Rehabilitation Project)
TO NEW JERSEY (WESTBOUND) Friday & Saturday, August 27 & August 28, 10 p.m. until 10 a.m. the following morning Weather permitting, the westbound lower level will be closed. New Jersey-bound delays are expected. Heaviest delays (up to one hour) are expected Saturday mornings between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. Cars will be detoured to the westbound upper level. To avoid delays, motorists are advised to use the Lincoln Tunnel for access to New Jersey. (GWB Westbound Lower Level Pavement Replacement Project)
IN BOTH DIRECTIONS (EASTBOUND & WESTBOUND) Friday & Saturday, August 27 & August 28, 11:59 p.m. until 8 a.m. the following morning The two leftmost eastbound upper level bridge lanes and the leftmost westbound upper level bridge lane will be closed to traffic. (Median Barrier Work)

 

TRANS-MANHATTAN EXPRESSWAY OVERPASS REHABILITATION PROJECT

The Port Authority of NY & NJ will begin an estimate $4.7 M project to replace the expansion joints on Broadway, Wadsworth Ave., St. Nicholas Ave., Audubon Ave., and Amsterdam Ave as part of the Trans-Manhattan Expressway Overpass Rehabilitation Project.

Work will be completed on one street before proceeding to the next. Each street will be closed in one direction when work is in process, and cars will detour to the next street with a one-block detour

Work Schedule (now through August 2010, weather permitting):
St. Nicholas, Wadsworth, and Audubon avenues: 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning.
Broadway: 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning.
Amsterdam Avenue: 11:59 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning

GW BRIDGE WESTBOUND LOWER LEVEL PAVEMENT REPLACEMENT PROJECT

A pavement rehabilitation project at the George Washington Bridge on the westbound/NJ-bound lower level and both directions of the Trans-Manhattan Expressway (under apartments on NY side) began on Friday, July 16. The work will be performed during off-peak hours on consecutive weekends during the paving season, which spans between March and November, to continue through March 2012. The westbound lower level will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, through 10 a.m., Saturday, and again from 10 p.m. Saturday, through 10 a.m. Sunday, with all traffic shifted to the upper level. Major delays are expected delays in the New Jersey-bound direction, especially on Saturday mornings between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. Motorists are encouraged to use the Lincoln Tunnel for access to New Jersey.

Around-the-clock, until further notice

All Trucks must use the upper level of the George Washington Bridge. Violators subject to summons and/or fine.

GWB Sidewalk Hours of Operation

Bicyclists using the sidewalk are asked to walk their bikes for the safety of all sidewalk users. Bicyclists who choose to ride are asked to exercise caution and ride slowly. Pedestrians have the right-of-way at all times.

Users of the GWB sidewalk are encouraged to sign up for Bridge & Tunnel Alerts at http://btt.paalerts.com. Select the "Bicyclists/Pedestrian" Customer Type to have free alerts regarding sidewalk closures sent to your cell phone, smart phone, or e-mail account.

The New York State Department of Transportation advises that rehabilitation work on the Alexander Hamilton Bridge may result in delays at the George Washington Bridge in both directions during the following times:

  • Mondays through Thursdays, 11 p.m. until 5:30 a.m. the following morning
  • Fridays, 11:59 p.m. until 8 a.m. Saturday.
  • Saturdays, 11:59 p.m. until 9 a.m. Sunday.

Lincoln Tunnel

TO NEW JERSEY (WESTBOUND) Sunday & Monday, August 29 & 30, 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning The New Jersey–bound north tube will be closed to traffic. Customers are advised to access the Lincoln Tunnel via the center tube using entrances at 36th Street and 9th Avenue, or 30th, 31st or 33rd Streets between 9th and 10th Avenues. (Routine Maintenance)

One tube of the Lincoln Tunnel will be closed to traffic. Weeknights, two additional tunnel lanes in each direction will be closed at 12:30 a.m., traffic permitting, leaving one lane in each direction available. (Routine Maintenance)

 

Holland Tunnel

ADVANCE NOTICE - HOLLAND TUNNEL PEDESTRIAN WALKWAY/BRIDGE TO BE CLOSED 9/9 – 9/12

A full closure of the Holland Tunnel Pedestrian Walkway/Bridge is necessary to allow for repairs to the span. The walkway/bridge is scheduled to be closed at 6AM Thursday, September 9 and remain closed around-the-clock for a period of 24 to 48 hours. Specific closure hours will be provided in next week’s advisory.

  • No Tractor-Trailers
  • No Three-Axle Dual-Unit Trucks
  • No Trucks With Four Or More Axles.

Only two and three-axle single-unit trucks allowed.

Goethals Bridge Sidewalk Closure

The pedestrian sidewalk is closed around-the-clock, until further notice.

From 7AM until 7PM, service between NWK & WTC will run on a 20-minute schedule in both directions, to accommodate track work.

WTC trains depart NWK :00, :20 & :40.
NWK trains depart WTC :07, :27 & :47.

Journal Square – 33rd Street via Hoboken (JSQ-HOB-33)
Service will operate on a normal weekend schedule.

Notes

14th Street Station will be closed for cleaning from 11:59 p.m. Sunday until 5 a.m. Monday morning. Customers are advised to enter PATH via Ninth Street Station.

During overnight hours, all PATH service at 14th Street Station or 23rd Street Station may operate from that station’s uptown or downtown track. Signage is posted at that the entrance of the affected station(s) when this single-track operation is in effect.

Riders are reminded that eating, drinking, and smoking are not permitted on PATH.

Newark Liberty Airport

Dates Notice
Tuesday, August 17 – Tuesday, August 31 EWR Express Roadway Paving
Starting on Tuesday evening, August 17, 2010 and extending through August 31, 2010, Monday through Friday evenings from 10:00 pm – 5:00 am, the Express Roadway approaching Terminals B & C will undergo construction for repaving of all three traffic lanes. There will be one-lane, two-lane and entire closures of this section of roadway . If needed, detour signage will be in place.

Please drive carefully through the work area and expect some delays.
Ongoing New Arrivals Level
The Terminal B mid-level roadway (previously known as the arrivals level roadway) is now closed. All passenger pick ups, both international and domestic, are being made on the new arrivals level, located on the lower level of Terminal B. Taxi service is still available at the mid-level and is located at the lower level of the terminal.
