Date: Feb 17, 2017

The Bayonne Bridge, George Washington Bridge and Holland Tunnel will institute lane closures this weekend and/or next week due to ongoing construction and repair projects.

The closings, scheduled in conjunction with other regional agencies to minimize traffic impacts, are as follows:

Bayonne Bridge:

  • The Bayonne Bridge will be closed from 7 p.m. Friday, February 17 through 5 a.m. Monday, February 20 to accommodate construction on the “Raise the Roadway” project, the elevation of the bridge's roadway to provide navigational clearance for neo-Panamax container vessels.
  • At 5 a.m. Monday, February 20, all Bayonne Bridge traffic will be directed to the bridge’s new elevated roadway, and the bridge will become a cashless toll facility. Drivers using E-ZPass will experience no change in toll collection, so long as the E-ZPass tag is mounted in the vehicle’s windshield. Further information on the cashless tolling program can be found here.
  • The Bayonne Bridge will close overnight from Tuesday, February 21 through Thursday, February 24 from 7 p.m. each night to 5 a.m. the following morning, for ongoing “Raise the Roadway” work. On certain weekdays, the bridge will open at 4:30 a.m. to provide an alternate route for drivers affected by traffic holds on the Goethals Bridge.
