Minority, Women- Owned and Small Business Enterprises

The Port Authority and the DV are invested in developing M/WBE participation.

Previously, the Port Authority, GWBBS Development Venture LLC, and Tutor Perini Building Corp. hosted a Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprise (M/WBE) outreach forum in Washington Heights in September 2013. Over 170 business owners connected with the prime contractors of the GWBBS to learn and gather information regarding the number of real business opportunities on this $183 million project, which had a contract goal of 12% MBE and 5% WBE participation. As a result, a significant portion of project construction has been performed to date by M/WBE contractors.

At the suggestion of the PA, the DV worked with, Tutor Perini Building Corp., to exceed the target for M/WBE participation in the project.  The DV achieved 20% M/WBE participation ($14 million +), exceeding the approved 17% M/WBE target.
