About the Program

Founded in 1921, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey builds, operates, and maintains many of the most important transportation and trade infrastructure assets in the country. The agency's network of aviation, rail, surface transportation, and seaport facilities moves hundreds of millions of people and goods throughout the region annually and supports more than 550,000 regional jobs, more than $23 billion in annual wages, and $80 billion in annual economic activity. The Port Authority also owns and manages the 16-acre World Trade Center site, where construction crews are building the iconic One World Trade Center, which is now the tallest skyscraper in the Western Hemisphere.

Internship Description

The Port Authority offers 12-week paid internships to graduate and undergraduate students that provide the opportunity to work with knowledgeable and experienced professionals on assignments related to the student's major. These assignments will include hands-on projects to cultivate technical, writing, communication and team-building skills. On the job learning is supported by networking sessions with senior management, other interns and facility visits; broadening your understanding of the agency. Interns with outstanding performance often have moved into full-time positions upon graduation.

Engineering and Architecture Internships

Engineering and Architecture Interns will assist experienced engineers with planning, design, construction management and supervision, materials testing and inspection, and information technology management for projects at various Port Authority facilities. Assignments are project-driven and task-oriented; your work will directly contribute to the Engineering Department's commitment to excellence in engineering and architecture by delivering timely, cost-effective services. Engineering & Architecture internships are typically available in the following disciplines:

We are seeking interns who are talented, driven and who have a genuine interest in contributing to the success of the New York/New Jersey region. We welcome applications from current graduate and undergraduate students in a variety of majors such as accounting, architecture, aviation management, business administration, computer science, construction management, economics, engineering, finance, human resources, industrial engineering, law/criminal justice, marketing, public administration, materials management, public and government affairs, and urban studies/planning. Successful candidates will be self-starters with excellent communication, research and applicable technical skills.

To be considered for our 2015 Summer Internship Program students must be enrolled in a undergraduate or graduate program for Fall 2015.

The Selection Process
