Title VI / Nondiscrimination Policy Statement

It is the policy of The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (Port Authority) that no person shall be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination in the receipt of its services on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, disability/handicap, income status, Limited English Proficiency (LEP), or any other federally protected category as protected under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended and any other non-discrimination statutes that afford legal protection.

No person or group of persons shall be discriminated against with regard to availability or quality of Port Authority transportation services.  Nor shall the availability or quality of transportation services, security, emergency services, information or assistance, fare structures, frequency of service, and access to transportation facilities provided by or directly operated by the Port Authority, be determined based on any of the categories listed above.

Any person who believes that he or she has, individually or as a member of any specific class of persons, been subjected to discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, disability/handicap, income status, Limited English Proficiency (LEP), or other federally protected category may file a Title VI complaint with the Port Authority, as outlined in the Port Authority’s Title VI Complaint Procedures, within 180 days of the date of the alleged discrimination.

Filing A Complaint

Any person who believes that he/she has been subjected to discrimination may file a written complaint with the Port Authority of NY & NJ. Federal and State law require complaints be filed within one hundred eighty (180) calendar days of the last alleged incident.

The complaint will include the following information:*

  • Name, address, and telephone number of the complainant.
  • The basis of the complaint.
  • The date or dates on which the alleged discriminatory event or events occurred.
  • A description of the incident that led the complainant to feel that discrimination was a factor.
  • Names, addresses and telephone numbers of persons who may have knowledge of the event.
  • Complainant’s signature and date.
  • The person filing a complaint has the choice to file an anonymous complaint. However, we will not be able to follow-up with the complainant without the inclusion of a name in the complaint form.
