PATH understands that some riders may not be satisfied with the frequency of late-night weekday and weekend service, as well as with route changes through Hoboken during off-peak hours. The 30-minute schedule used during overnight hours is designed to permit necessary track, signal and station maintenance, while minimizing disruptions to the system’s overall service during peak periods. While it will not be possible to make widespread changes, we are reviewing whether any extra trains may be added in the future during off-peak hours.
No. The development of the Transportation Hub at World Trade Center permanent PATH hub is a separate project (and its funded by federal money provided for rebuilding after the 9/11 attack). The vast bulk of the Port Authority’s PATH modernization program is focusing on system-wide improvements. They include replacing the entire existing 340-railcar fleet, upgrading the current mechanized signals to a computerized system and upgrading stations throughout the rail line.
PATH has a major capital program in the works to renovate rail stations throughout the system. These improvements include an array of projects, including more helpful signs, replacing seating, lighting, escalators and elevators, as well as extending station platforms to accommodate 10-car trains along the Newark to World Trade Center line.
