The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has awarded awarded a $743.3 million contract to the team of Skanska Hock, Inc. / Kiewit Infrastructure Co. (JV) as part of an overall $1.29 billion program to increase the navigational clearance program of the Bayonne Bridge. The project will raise the road deck by 64 feet. The new road deck will be safer, with 12-foot lanes, shoulders, a median divider, and a 12-foot bike and pedestrian walkway. It will also provide the capability for future mass transit options across the span.
There will be no closures Labor Day weekend (beginning Friday morning through Tuesday morning) or Columbus Day Weekend (beginning Friday morning through Tuesday morning).
PLEASE NOTE: The bridge will be open on Saturday and Sunday nights and holiday weekends.
During scheduled work hours, traffic will be diverted to the Goethals Bridge.
All evening and overnight over-dimensional movements will occur at the Goethals Bridge.
During non-closure periods and weekends (Friday night, Saturday night, and Sunday night), over-dimensional movements will be permitted westbound at the Outerbridge Crossing and Goethals Bridge, under normal procedures and subject to the restrictions of the Outerbridge closing schedule.
For more information, including maps showing alternate routes of travel, please visit the Port Authority's press release on work being performed.
