Effective August 1st, 2013, NYSA will reduce its charge on certain cargo containers. Boxes with a destination within 260 miles of the Port of New York and New Jersey will now be charged $94.00, down from $100.00 on all trades save the Bermuda Trade, which remains $25.00.
In a press release, President of NYSA John Nardi stated, "The new rates continue a decade-long trend of reduced operational costs in the Port of New York and New Jersey and further demonstrates the ongoing commitment of NYSA members to reduce the cost of doing business in the largest and busiest port on the east coast."
The Port of New York and New Jersey handled more than 3.3 million cargo containers in 2012, up 2.7 percent from 2011. Cargo containers whose destination falls within 260 miles of the port constitute nearly 80 percent of total containers shipped.
Mr. Nardi called the rate reduction "very significant for the international carriers that call here."
