LAGUARDIA AIRPORT TO CONDUCT EMERGENCY DRILL THIS SATURDAY

A simulated airplane emergency will be staged at LaGuardia Airport this Saturday morning, October 2, providing a highly realistic training exercise for Port Authority Police Department crash-fire rescue teams and other emergency service workers.

The drill -- which will last approximately two hours -- will involve the use of personnel, rescue equipment and communications from a number of participating agencies. They include Port Authority Police, New York City fire and police departments, the Nassau County Police Department, U.S. Coast Guard, American Red Cross, New York City Medical Examiner's Office, Salvation Army, and the New York City Department of Corrections, which operates nearby Rikers Island.

Approximately 100 volunteers from various Boy Scout troops will serve as "victims" for the drill.
