PORT AUTHORITY OFFERS AIRLINE FLIGHT SCHEDULES ON EXPANDED WEB SITE

Travelers using John F. Kennedy, LaGuardia or Newark Airports can now click on the Port Authority’s Web site to get schedules for all 125 passenger airlines serving the region, Port Authority Executive Director Robert E. Boyle announced today.

“Port Authority airports offer highly competitive airfares on a large number of airlines to an unparalleled number of non-stop destinations,” Mr. Boyle said. “And now, the Port Authority’s Web site offers flight information for all of these airlines and destinations.”

Customers can visit the Port Authority’s site, www.panynj.gov, click on ‘Airline Schedules’ and select a city from the list of destinations. The system will show every airline that serves that destination from JFK, Newark or LaGuardia, along with departure and arrival times and scheduled flying time for all scheduled flights. Schedules for flights to JFK, Newark and LaGuardia are also available.

Airport maps, travel advisories, lists of retail services and other information concerning the airports and other Port Authority facilities are available within seconds.

"A Chicago resident planning on changing planes at JFK, for example, can quickly call up a map of the airport, a chart showing the distance from one terminal to another and a guide to bus routes available," Mr. Boyle said.

By typing www.panynj.gov, Internet users have immediate access to a wide range of information regarding not only the three airports, but also Port Authority tunnels and bridges between New York and New Jersey, the Port Authority Bus Terminal, the PATH rail transit system and more. They can even sign up for E-ZPass, the electronic toll-collection system used at tunnels and bridges throughout the region, by printing an application from the Web site.

Opened in December 1996, the Port Authority’s Web site was the first government site to receive the "Site of the Day" designation from Yahoo, the most popular search engine on the Internet. The award, usually bestowed only on private-sector Web sites, recognizes high standards of design and ease of use.

The site is visited by an average of 300 people a day, and has been accessed by more than 74,000 people since it first became available.

The site attracts more than 200 e-mail messages and comments a month. Requests have ranged from shippers looking for services at the Port of New York and New Jersey, to a researcher seeking genealogical information on a 19th Century mariner (one request that couldn't be filled).

Requests for information have come from as far away as Japan, Brazil and Australia.
