34-98: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE , March 20, 1998
That’s because one of the traffic lanes on 12th Street has been designated for E-ZPass tag holders only, giving them a smooth approach to the tunnel’s “E-Z Pass Only” toll booth. The E-ZPass Only roadway lane opened this week.
“We’ve received many calls and letters from our E-ZPass customers asking for a lane like this, and we always try to respond to our customers,” said Ernesto Butcher, Director of Tunnels, Bridges and Terminals. “This should make using E-ZPass even more convenient -- by expediting the tag holder’s passage to the toll plaza.”
To ensure that customers can quickly recognize the “E-ZPass Only” roadway lane, the E-ZPass logo has been painted on its pavement, and signs have been placed alongside. This approach lane leads directly to toll lane #4, which is dedicated exclusively to E-ZPass customers. The lane stretches the entire length of the 12th Street approach road to the toll plaza, which is the three blocks between Jersey Avenue and Luis Marin Boulevard.
Since E-ZPass went into service at Port Authority crossings last year, the E-ZPass Customer Service Center has issued more than 210,000 Port Authority customer tags.
