CHERRY BLOSSOMS TO ADORN JFK, AS A BIRTHDAY GIFT FROM JAPAN

The President of Japan’s Narita Airport will plant the first of 20 cherry trees at John F. Kennedy International Airport this Friday, April 24, as a gift to JFK to mark the New York airport’s 50th birthday.

Mr. Toru Nakamura will plant the cherry tree at 3 P.M. alongside the Van Wyck Expressway at Federal Circle, near the entrance to the airport. Media representatives can also see some of the thousands of other flowers, trees and shrubs that are being planted at JFK this spring, as part of the most extensive landscaping and replanting program ever undertaken at the airport.

Mr. Nakamura will be joined for the planting by Charles G. Seliga, General Manager of JFK. Media representatives covering the event should park in the lot in front of Building 178, which is across the street from the site of the planting.
