PROJECT PATHWAYS EXPO AT JFK HIGHLIGHTS CONSTRUCTION JOB OPPORTUNITIES

Career opportunities in the construction trades will be exhibited at a Project Pathways Career Day, to be held on Wednesday, May 14, at JFK International Airport, Building 208, beginning at 10 A.M.

Project Pathways, a cooperative program sponsored by the city's public schools, local construction trade unions and public agencies including the Port Authority, helps high school students gain entry into union sponsored, skilled trade apprenticeship programs.

One thousand students from ten participating high schools have been invited to the expo to learn about a wide range of employment choices within the construction industry. Representatives of the building trades unions, construction firms and the Project Pathways program will be on hand to speak with the students.

Project Pathways offers a seven week pre apprenticeship program for vocational high school seniors that prepares them for entry into trades apprenticeship programs. It is designed to increase the number of women and minorities active in the construction trades unions. The program has placed over 400 high school graduates into skilled trade apprenticeship programs.

Project Pathways is administered by the New York City School Construction Authority and sponsored by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the Building and Construction Trades Council of New York, the New York City Building Congress, the Building Trades Employers Association, and the New York City vocational high schools.

The aviation industry is a major contributor to the economy of the New York New Jersey metropolitan region. The region's three major airports generate $25 billion in annual economic activity, $8.1 billion a year in wages and salaries and 233,000 jobs. Spending in the region by tourists using the three airports amount to an additional $11 billion.

Directions: Take Van Wyck Expressway on airport to the Federal Circle exit. Follow signs to Building 208.
