PORT AUTHORITY READY FOR UPCOMING SNOWSTORM

Date: Mar 01, 2009
Press Release Number: 27-2009

The Port Authority is ready for a significant winter storm forecast to begin late tonight and expected to continue through Monday afternoon, and has prepared a large amount of snow-fighting equipment to ensure its airports, tunnels, bridges, and rail system continue to operate safely and efficiently.

The Port Authority has called for a full-alert at its airports starting tonight, and staff will work around the clock in 12-hour shifts. The airports, bridges, tunnels and PATH have snow desks where key personnel analyze weather reports and deploy staff and equipment.

Since heavy snow is scheduled to fall before the Monday morning rush hour, the Port Authority strongly encourages air passengers to contact their carriers before going to the airport to check in advance for delays and cancellations.
