PORT AUTHORITY AIRPORTS CAPTURE FOUR FIRST PRIZES IN NATIONAL RETAIL COMPETITION JUDGED BY AVIATION EXPERTS

New York and New Jersey travelers in search of award-winning shopping and dining need look no further than the Port Authority\'s airports.

Shops and restaurants at Kennedy International, Newark International and LaGuardia airports won four first-place awards in the prestigious Airport Retail News Best Concessions 2002 competition, Port Authority Director of Aviation William R. DeCota announced today. Over the past three years, the Port Authority\'s airports have captured 13 first prizes in the annual competition judged by aviation industry experts.
\"As more and more passengers return to airports across the country, it\'s more important than ever to provide high levels of customer service,\" Mr. DeCota said. \"The development of outstanding shops and restaurants is an important part of the Port Authority\'s record $15 billion public-private airport redevelopment program. These awards, and numerous others that the Port Authority\'s airports have won in recent years, clearly show that Kennedy, Newark and LaGuardia are sustaining excellence.\"

Terminal operators and vendors at the Port Authority\'s airports also earned 15 second-place, third-place and fourth-place finishes in this year\'s competition.

Terminal C at Newark Airport, operated by Continental Airlines, captured first prize in two categories - airport terminal with the Best Overall Program, and terminal with the Best Management Team.

Terminal 7 at Kennedy Airport, run by British Airways, won first prize for airport terminal with the Most Innovative Services.

Figs at LaGuardia, located in the airport\'s Central Terminal Building, tied for first place among small companies for Best New Food and Beverage Concept. Figs also finished in second place for Best Airport Food and Beverage Operator, and in third place for Best Airport Restaurant Design.
