NEW YORK LEAGUE OF CONSERVATION VOTERS SUPPORTS PORT AUTHORITY PLAN

Date: Aug 08, 2011
Press Release Number: 60-2011

Statement by Marcia Bystryn: “While these are admittedly difficult financial times, the League recognizes how important these toll and fare increases are to the future of the agency. We’re particularly encouraged that some of the funds will be dedicated to projects that will improve air quality, like the funding of a Midtown bus garage that will reduce trips across the Hudson currently needed to park empty buses when they are not in use. It’s also worth noting that the agency’s proposal is expected to increase E-ZPass use to as much as 85 percent, which again works in favor of better air quality by reducing congestion and the attendant emissions. And, of course, we’re pleased to see that qualified energy-efficient vehicles using Green Pass will see no toll increase during off-peak hours, while car poolers also get to keep their peak-hour discount.”
