The upper level of the George Washington Bridge will be closed overnight this weekend – and have only one lane open in each direction during the late evening and morning hours. The closings are required while crews install scaffolding as part of an upcoming bridge paint removal and recoating project.
The bridge’s upper level will be closed from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, and from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. on Sunday, April 7.
Three of the upper level’s four lanes will be closed on Friday and Saturday nights from 10 p.m. to 10 a.m. the following morning, except for the four hours when all lanes will be shut.
When the upper level is closed, motorists will be diverted to the bridge’s lower level. Travelers may also use the Lincoln Tunnel to and from Manhattan.
