TRAVEL ADVISORY - PORT AUTHORITY RESTRUCTURING PARKING AS PART OF TRANSFORMATIVE LAGUARDIA REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT

Date: May 31, 2016
Press Release Number: 87-2016

Travelers are encouraged to allow extra travel time or consider using public transportation

Parking availability at LaGuardia Airport will be aggressively managed throughout the multi-billion-dollar Terminal B modernization project that will require the closure of some lots, but travelers should leave extra time and use public transportation if possible.

Starting June 1, long-term parking at LGA’s Lot P3 at will close as part of the airport’s redevelopment. Travelers can continue to park in lots P2, P4 and P5, which provide easy access to Terminals B, C and D.

Beginning July 8, daily parking in Lot P2 at LaGuardia Airport will close due to construction. Travelers can park in daily lots P4 and P5 for access to Terminals B, C and D. A new long-term Lot P10 will be opening this summer. LaGuardia airport staff will seek to manage parking demand during the construction work period, in part by having employees park in an alternative area just off the airport’s west end.

The existing parking garages are currently operating below capacity. Once the modernization project is completed – including completion of a new West Garage scheduled for 2018 and the already completed East Garage – there will be sufficient parking for both passengers and airport employees.

Free shuttle service is available to all terminals and parking lots. Premium reserved parking is available for travelers to reserve a space prior to arriving at the airport. For lot availability, parking rates and to reserve a premium parking space visit www.parkintheairport.com.

During the construction period, terminal roadways also may be congested. Travelers are encouraged to allow additional travel time, consider using public transportation or find other modes of transportation as a new LaGuardia Airport is underway. The LaGuardia website provides up-to-date parking availability by lot, and parkers can reserve a spot ahead of time online.
