PORT AUTHORITY AND LOCAL OFFICIALS TO REDEDICATE NATIONAL HISTORIC LANDMARK BUILDING ONE AT NEWARK LIBERTY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT AT 11 A.M. ON TUESDAY, DECEMBER 17, 2002
Date: Dec 16, 2002
Press Release Number: 139-2002
Newark Liberty International Airport’s Building One, an Art Deco structure which served as the nation’s first passenger terminal, housed the nation’s first air traffic control tower and was originally dedicated by Amelia Earhart in 1935, will be rededicated in a ceremony at the airport at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 17, 2002. The building was recently hydraulically lifted, placed atop rubber-tire dollies and moved about 3/4 of a mile to its present location. The National Historic Landmark was renovated and restored, and today houses Port Authority airport staff, police staff, aircraft rescue and firefighting equipment, and airport operations equipment.
Media who wish to cover the ceremony should go to the lobby of Building One (Port Authority Administration Building) on Conrad Road at Newark Liberty International Airport.
