HOLLAND TUNNEL REHABILITATION WORK
TO BEGIN MONDAY, FEBRUARY 3
Date: Jan 29, 2003
Press Release Number: 9-2003
Work Will Require Weeknight Lane Closings in the New York-Bound Direction from 10 p.m. -5 a.m.
A rehabilitation project in the New York-bound tube of the Holland Tunnel will begin Monday, February 3, requiring one lane to be closed from 10 p.m.-5 a.m. Mondays through Thursdays and from 11:59 p.m. on Fridays until 7 a.m. the following morning.
For the next 18 months, one eastbound lane of the New York–bound Holland Tunnel will be closed to replace the fire standpipe. The replacement of the tunnel’s standpipe is part of a project to upgrade and modernize the entire fire protection system.
This phase of the rehabilitation project will affect New York-bound traffic only. Motorists may encounter delays between 10 p.m. and midnight, Monday through Thursday evenings.
To avoid delays, motorists should consider the Lincoln Tunnel as an alternate route. Additional information will be posted at toll lanes and on highway advisory radio.
For information and assistance on alternate routes, call 800 221-9903 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays. Automated information is available at other times. Information is also available on the Port Authority’s Web site: www.panynj.gov.
