THOUSANDS OF MOTORCYCLISTS TO PARTICIPATE IN GOOCH’S GARLIC RUN THROUGH HOLLAND TUNNEL WEDNESDAY

Date: Jun 24, 2003
Press Release Number: 85-2003

The Holland Tunnel will remain open to traffic tomorrow night, June 25, when nearly 2,000 motorcyclists will travel through the tunnel en route from Morris County, N.J., to Little Italy in Manhattan as part of the 16th Annual Gooch’s Garlic Run.

The run raises money for children fighting catastrophic illnesses. The event is hosted this year by Rockaway Townsquare Mall, the Blue Knights International Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club New Jersey Chapter IX, and the Hilton Garden Inn, Rockaway. It begins at the Rockaway Townsquare Mall at 6:30 p.m., and proceeds to the Holland Tunnel, then into New York.

Motorists are advised that the north side of 12th Street, Jersey City, will be closed from about 7:15 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. to accommodate participants entering the Holland Tunnel. The two far left lanes of the toll plaza will be dedicated for their use.

Since the run’s inception 16 years ago, the Port Authority, which operates the Holland Tunnel, has worked closely with organizers to make the event a success.

Last year’s run generated more than $40,000 in proceeds. This year, the money will help pay for five children from four families to receive treatment for their illnesses.
