BAN LIFTED ON WESTBOUND SMALL TRUCKS AT HOLLAND TUNNEL

Date: Jul 02, 2003
Press Release Number: 93-2003

Beginning at 5 a.m. on Monday, July 7, 2003, two- and three-axle single-unit trucks, with a maximum width of 96 inches, will once again be permitted to use the westbound Holland Tunnel to New Jersey. The Port Authority and the New York City Department of Transportation have worked cooperatively to introduce this change.

All other trucks, including tractor-trailers, will remain prohibited from the Holland Tunnel in both directions. In addition, the Single-Occupancy Auto restriction, which requires passenger autos to carry at least two people, remains in effect weekday mornings from 6 to 10 a.m. Motorists are reminded that all tunnel-bound vehicles are subject to inspection by the Port Authority Police Department and other law-enforcement officials.
