MEDIA ADVISORY - GOVERNOR PATAKI TO DEDICATE AIRTRAIN JFK

New York Governor George E. Pataki will be joined by local officials and Port Authority executives and staff as he officially opens AirTrain JFK at the AirTrain JFK Terminal at Jamaica, Sutphin Boulevard and 94th Avenue, Jamaica, N.Y., on Wednesday, December 17, 2003 – the 100th anniversary of the Wright Brothers’ first powered flight.# # #
AirTrain JFK, a state-of-the-art rail system, will provide fast, reliable and convenient transportation between passenger terminals at John F. Kennedy International Airport and rail terminals in Jamaica and Howard Beach. The $1.9 billion system also provides connections between airline terminals and to rental car lots and parking areas at the airport.
Media wishing to cover the opening should arrive at the terminal by 9:45 a.m. and proceed to the concourse level (second floor). Following a dedication ceremony, media will be permitted to ride AirTrain JFK to the airport. Media credentials will be required.
Passenger service will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Customers will be allowed to ride the entire system for free until 12:01 a.m. Thursday, December 18.
