Press Release Number: 102-2004
On Saturday, August 21, about 1,200 motorcycles are expected to pass through the Holland Tunnel at about 5:30 p.m., on their way to the World Trade Center site and then on to midtown Manhattan as America’s 9/11 Ride makes its annual run in honor of the victims of the September 11, 2001, attacks.
Participants will begin the ride in Washington, D.C., and travel north on Interstate 95. When they arrive at the tunnel, participating motorcycles will remain segregated from regular vehicles to minimize the impact on traffic. Motorists are advised that the north side of 12th Street in Jersey City will be closed from about 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. to accommodate participants entering the tunnel. The far left lane of the toll plaza will be dedicated for the use of the motorcycles.
Last year’s event raised money to purchase four fully equipped police motorcycles, valued at more than $80,000, that were donated to police departments around the country, including one given to the Port Authority Police Department.
