TRAFFIC ADVISORY - 25 MPH E-ZPASS ONLY LANES COMING TO THE
LOWER LEVEL OF THE GEORGE WASHINGTON BRIDGE
Date: Nov 18, 2004
Press Release Number: 140-2004
The Port Authority will increase the speed limit at three E-ZPass Only lanes on the lower level of the George Washington Bridge from 5 to 25 mph beginning Sunday, November 21, at 8 a.m. These lanes will be located in the center of the toll plaza. All other lanes will continue to function as either 5 mph E-ZPass Only or accept cash and E-ZPass.
Motorists are reminded that during overnight hours, E-ZPass is the only form of payment accepted at the lower level toll plaza. Cash-paying customers must use the upper level approach, from I-95 Express or local Fort Lee streets. In addition, all commercial vehicles are banned from the lower level of the bridge.
The George Washington Bridge’s lower level is the fifth Port Authority location to implement a 25-mph speed limit for E-ZPass Only lanes. In June 2003, the Outerbridge Crossing became the first, followed by the George Washington Bridge’s Palisades Interstate Parkway toll plaza in December 2003. The Goethals and Bayonne bridges added 25 mph E-ZPass Only lanes to their toll plazas earlier this year.
