THOUSANDS OF MOTORCYCLISTS TO PARTICIPATE WEDNESDAY
IN GOOCH’S GARLIC RUN THROUGH HOLLAND TUNNEL
Date: Jun 14, 2005
Press Release Number: 70-2005
The Holland Tunnel will remain open to traffic Wednesday night, June 15, when nearly 2,000 motorcyclists are scheduled to travel through the tunnel from Morris County, N.J., to Little Italy in Lower Manhattan as part of the 18th Annual Gooch’s Garlic Run. # # #
The benefit raises money for children with catastrophic illnesses. It begins at the Rockaway Townsquare Mall at 6:30 p.m., and proceeds through the Holland Tunnel.
Motorists are advised that the north side (left side) of 12th Street in Jersey City will be closed from approximately 7 to 9:30 p.m. to accommodate participants entering the tunnel. In addition, the leftmost lanes of the toll plaza tunnel and the left side of the exit Rotary in New York will be dedicated for the benefit run’s use. Motorists should expect delays and may want to use the Lincoln Tunnel as an alternate route.
Since the run’s inception 18 years ago, the Port Authority, which operates the Holland Tunnel, has worked closely with organizers to make the event a success. Last year’s run generated more than $43,000. This year, proceeds will help defray medical expenses for four Morris County area children.
