MEDIA ADVISORY - PORT AUTHORITY SCHEDULES PUBLIC MEETING TO DISCUSS VEHICLE SECURITY CENTER, TOUR BUS PARKING AT WTC SITE

Date: Sep 23, 2005
Press Release Number: 109-2005

The Port Authority has scheduled a public meeting on September 28 to discuss plans to build a vehicle security center and tour bus parking facility at the World Trade Center site.

The meeting will be held at the Borough of Manhattan Community College, 199 Chambers Street, Manhattan, beginning at 4 p.m. with a brief presentation scheduled for 4:30 p.m. The presentation will be repeated at 6:30 p.m. and staff will be available until 8 p.m. for informal discussion.

The project will provide an underground tour bus parking facility at the World Trade Center site. Dozens of tour buses are expected at the site each day when the memorial opens in 2009. The initial phase of this project also includes construction of a security center south of Liberty Street that will inspect vehicles entering the underground parking and servicing areas at the site.

Funding for the initial phase of this project is being provided by the Federal Transit Administration.
