TRAFFIC ADVISORY - GEORGE WASHINGTON BRIDGE LANES TO BE CLOSED THIS WEEKEND
Date: Oct 20, 2006
Press Release Number: 83-2006
Three of four eastbound upper-level lanes of the George Washington Bridge will be closed for repaving beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, October 20, until 10 a.m. Saturday, October 21, and again at 10 p.m. Saturday until 10 a.m. Sunday. The Palisades Interstate Parkway toll plaza also will be closed during this period.
As trucks are restricted to the upper level of the bridge at all times, truck drivers should expect to encounter significant delays during these hours, and are strongly urged to consider alternative routes to New York City, such as the Lincoln Tunnel and Tappan Zee Bridge.
Motorists are strongly urged to use the lower level or consider using the Lincoln Tunnel as an alternate route into Manhattan. Staffed toll lanes will be available on the lower level for cash-paying automobile customers during this overnight closure.
The work is weather-sensitive and may be canceled in the event of heavy rain. Customers can call the Port Authority at 800 221-9903 for automated information or visit www.panynj.info and click on “traffic advisory.”
