Press Release Number: 97-2006
Three of four westbound upper-level lanes of the George Washington Bridge will be closed for construction beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, November 17, until 10 a.m. Saturday, November 18, and again at 10 p.m. Saturday, until 10 a.m. Sunday.
Three of four eastbound upper-level lanes of the George Washington Bridge will be closed for repaving beginning at 11:59 p.m. Friday, November 17 until 8 a.m. Saturday, November 18.
The Palisades Interstate Parkway toll plaza also will be closed during this period. Staffed toll lanes will be available on the lower level for cash-paying automobile customers during this overnight closure.
The construction is part of regular maintenance to keep the bridge’s deck and ramps in a state of good repair, helping to ensure safe and efficient travel across the bridge for customers.
As trucks are restricted to the upper level of the bridge at all times, truck drivers should expect to encounter significant delays during these hours, and are strongly urged to consider alternative routes to New Jersey, such as the Lincoln Tunnel and Tappan Zee Bridge. Motorists are strongly urged to use the bridge’s lower level or consider using the Lincoln Tunnel as an alternate route into New Jersey.
The work is weather-sensitive and may be canceled in the event of heavy rain. Customers can call the Port Authority at 800 221-9903 for automated information or visit www.panynj.info and click on “traffic advisory.”
