PORT AUTHORITY BOARD TAKES ACTION ON SEVERAL ITEMS

At its monthly meeting this afternoon, the Port Authority Board of Commissioners took the following actions:
Elected the following officers for the upcoming year: Anthony R. Coscia as Chairman; Henry R. Silverman as Vice Chairman; Anthony E. Shorris as Executive Director; James P. Fox as First Deputy Executive Director; William H. Goldstein as Deputy Executive Director – Capital Programs; Ernesto L. Butcher as Deputy Executive Director – Operations; Darrell Buchbinder as General Counsel; Karen E. Eastman as Secretary; A. Paul Blanco as Director of Finance; Michael G. Fabiano as Comptroller; Anne Marie Mulligan as Treasurer; and John D. Brill as Director of Audit. Mr. Coscia, Mr. Silverman and Mr. Shorris were elected as Chairman, Vice Chairman and President, respectively, of the Port Authority subsidiaries: the Port Authority Trans-Hudson Corporation; the Newark Legal and Communications Center Urban Renewal Corporation; and the New York and New Jersey Railroad Corporation. Mr. Butcher was elected Vice President and General Manager of the PATH rapid-transit system, and Vice President and Secretary of the New York and New Jersey Railroad Corporation. Michael B. Francois, the agency’s Chief of Real Estate and Development, was elected Vice President and Secretary of the Newark Legal Center Corporation.
Authorized an increase in project authorization of $12.2 million for the rehabilitation of the ventilation system for the Holland Tunnel. The increase in funding brings the total project authorization to $124.1 million.
Authorized a seven-year lease with Giordano Recycling, LLC for approximately 91,855 square feet of warehouse space at Port Newark for use as a facility to handle wastepaper and other recyclable materials.
Declared approximately 7,300 square feet of vacant land located between West 30th and 31st streets and between Dyer and 10th avenues in the Hudson Yards Development District in Manhattan as surplus property, and authorized a contract of sale with Extell Development Company for the property for $17.1 million.
Authorized, through its Committee on Finance, the purchase of property damage and loss of revenue insurance for all owned and leased properties of the Port Authority and its wholly owned entities for a one-year period at a premium of $31 million.
Authorized, through its Committee on Operations, a six-year labor agreement with the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen.
Authorized the Executive Director to enter into necessary agreements with the New Jersey Department of Transportation, New Jersey Turnpike Authority and other appropriate agencies to provide up to $32 million in Port Authority funds for traffic mitigation projects on the turnpike and Route 3 approaches to the Lincoln Tunnel. In return, the appropriate New Jersey state agency will designate the roads leading from the Lincoln Tunnel to the project location as an emergency evacuation corridor in the event of a disaster or other significant incident.
