Press Release Number: 32-2008
A new entrance for the World Trade Center PATH Station will open tonight, March 31, in time for the Tuesday morning rush hour on April 1.
The new entrance - located at the intersection of Vesey Street and West Broadway - is needed to accommodate ongoing construction at the World Trade Center site.
To allow for a transition period for PATH customers, the existing PATH entrance on Church Street also will remain open until mid-April. At that time, the Church Street entrance will be closed to allow for excavation and construction of that area as part of the ongoing World Trade Center construction work.
Construction of the new temporary PATH entrance is a key part of the rebuilding that's under way at the site. Work on the Freedom Tower has nearly reached street level, the foundations for the World Trade Center Memorial are nearly complete and work on Towers 3 and 4 is under way after the Port Authority constructed an 80-foot-deep bathtub on which they will be located.
