At its monthly meeting this afternoon, the Port Authority Board of Commissioners authorized:
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey operates many of the busiest and most important transportation links in the region. They include John F. Kennedy International, Newark Liberty International, LaGuardia, Stewart International and Teterboro airports; AirTrain JFK and AirTrain Newark; the George Washington Bridge and Bus Station; the Lincoln and Holland tunnels; the three bridges between Staten Island and New Jersey; the PATH (Port Authority Trans-Hudson) rapid-transit system; Port Newark; the Elizabeth-Port Authority Marine Terminal; the Howland Hook Marine Terminal on Staten Island; the Port Authority Auto Marine Terminal; the Brooklyn Piers/Red Hook Container Terminal; the Greenville Yard-Port Authority Marine Terminal; and the Port Authority Bus Terminal in midtown Manhattan. The agency also owns the 16-acre World Trade Center site in Lower Manhattan and is a partner in the Access to the Region's Core tunnel project.
- An additional $13 million in planning for the Goethals Bridge Modernization Program. The increase is needed to complete the Environmental Impact Statement for the program and begin preliminary planning and environmental analysis for bridge connections in both states.
- A $47.6 million project to replace and upgrade PATH's substation No. 7, which converts high-voltage power into usable levels for train operations. And the Direct Current Switchgear in Switching Station No. 6, which delivers the converted power to the DC-powered third rail.
- An agreement with AvPORTS to operate and maintain Stewart International Airport for five years.
- A $2 increase to the luggage cart rental fee (from $3 to $5) at John F. Kennedy International, Newark Liberty International and LaGuardia airports. Also authorized the extension of permits with Smart Carte, Inc. to provide luggage as well as a new agreement for carts at the existing rental fee of $3 at Stewart International Airport. The increase will fund replacement and improvements to the carts and related equipment.
- A Code of Ethics incorporating applicable requirements of law (which are substantially similar in the States of New York and New Jersey with respect to unsalaried public officers) and Port Authority policy to govern the conduct of Port Authority Commissioners.
- Authorized, through its Committee on Finance, the retention of Marsh USA Inc. to provide brokerage services for the Port Authority's Property Damage and Loss of Revenue and Public Liability Insurance programs.
