PORT AUTHORITY TO LEAD COALITION FOR FEDERAL FUNDING OF NEW AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL TECHNOLOGY
Date: Feb 24, 2009
Press Release Number: 24-2009
The Port Authority will announce a coalition to urge federal funding for an immediate overhaul of 1950s-era air traffic control technology at a news conference at 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday, February 25, at 1 Madison Avenue, New York.
The news conference will follow a Port Authority symposium featuring leaders of the region's airline, business, travel and tourism industries discussing NextGen air traffic technology, to be held from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the same location.
The symposium, which is open to the press, will take a comprehensive look at the reasons behind air traffic congestion and delays, how the issue impacts the region's economy, and how to advocate for a speedy fix by implementing NextGen, which works like an advanced GPS system that helps air traffic controllers move more aircraft more efficiently.
Media are invited to cover the symposium and the press briefing. Press should arrive at the Madison Avenue entrance and display photo identification to gain admittance.
