PORT AUTHORITY POLICE TO PARTICIPATE IN FUNDRAISERS FOR VICTIMS OF SEPTEMBER 11 ATTACKS ON WORLD TRADE CENTER--Officers Also Will Take Part in Madison Square Garden Benefit For Other Worthy Causes

Active and retired Port Authority Police Department members will participate in a series of fundraisers to benefit the families of Port Authority Police officers and commanders who were killed or remain missing in the attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11. Two members of the nonprofit Port Authority Police Ice Hockey Team also will participate in SuperSkate 2002 to benefit other worthy causes.

On March 2, the Port Authority Police Ice Hockey Team will face off against New York Islanders alumni in a benefit game at Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, N.Y. Prior to the game, the team will retire the jersey of Port Authority Police Officer George Howard, a member of the team who was killed in the attacks on the World Trade Center.

Tickets to the game, which will feature Islanders alumni led by former forward Bob Nystrom, are $10 and are tax deductible. Tickets are available at Port Authority facility police desks and at the Nassau Coliseum box office.

The Port Authority Police Ice Hockey team raised $15,000 in a charity game versus New Jersey Devils alumni in December. The jersey of Police Officer Ken Tietjen, another member of the team who was killed on September 11, was retired at that game.

On March 22 and 23, the hockey team will take part in the Heroes in Uniforms Charity Hockey Tournament and Gala at Chelsea Piers. The event, which also will feature professional hockey players and celebrities, includes a black-tie affair on Friday, March 22 and a hockey tournament on March 23. Ticket information will be announced shortly.

On January 23, the Port Authority Police Benevolent Association, in conjunction with families of retired and active Port Authority police officers, will hold a benefit for the Port Authority Police World Trade Disaster Survivors\' Fund at the Landmark in East Rutherford, N.J. Tickets are $50 and available by calling 201 568-5097, 201 664-6118, or 201 933-7044.

PAPD Lt. Nicholas Tagarelli and Police Officer Vincent Peteroy, members of the Port Authority Police Ice Hockey Team, will participate in the SuperSkate 2002 Skills Competition at 5 p.m. on Friday, January 18, at Madison Square Garden in a benefit for Rangers Cheering for Children and the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation. Tickets to SuperSkate 2002 are $10 to $60 and are available at the Garden box office and all Ticketmaster outlets.
