BERGEN COUNTY CONSTRUCTION AND BUILDING TRADES COUNCIL
SUPPORTS PORT AUTHORITY PLAN

Date: Aug 10, 2011
Press Release Number: 75-2011

Bergen County Construction and Building Trades President Thomas Misciagna has announced his support for the Port Authority of New York/New Jersey’s plan to increase revenues for capital construction.

“Increased user fees leads will lead to a better, safer user experience,” said Misciagna. “Upgrading our region’s transportation and port system will make us more economically competitive and will enhance people’s quality of life”

As part of the Port Authority’s $33 billion, ten-year capital plan, the George Washington Bridge which is located in Bergen County, will see extensive renovations including the replacement of 592 suspender cables. “If you want to know how important the replacement of these cables is to motorists, ask a construction worker,” said Misciagna. “These cables probably should have been replaced a decade ago. Many, newer bridges, have already replaced their suspender cables.”
