PORT AUTHORITY PLAN GARNERS UNPRECEDENTED SUPPORT FROM MORE THAN 60 LABOR, BUSINESS, TRANSPORTATION, CIVIC, AND COMMUNITY GROUPS AND LEADERS

Date: Aug 12, 2011
Press Release Number: 89-2011

Revenue Will Help Overhaul Aging Transportation Infrastructure Network, Create New Jobs and Drive Economic Activity

The Port Authority’s toll and fare proposal has received the backing of more than 60 organizations and individuals representing labor, business, transportation and other industries in the region.

The groups, which represent and employ hundreds of thousands of residents in the region, voiced public support for the proposal, with many citing the importance of reinvestment in the region’s critical but aging transportation network, and urgent need for economic growth and job creation. Many groups also noted that failure to implement an increase would result in immediate job loss, while approval of the plan would create 167,000 jobs.
