Press Release Number: 24-2002

Due to an ongoing fire emergency in a private building in Jersey City, the Manhattan-bound lanes of the Holland Tunnel will remain closed until further notice, the Port Authority announced today. Motorists commuting into Manhattan on the morning of Monday, March 25, 2002, are advised to use the Lincoln Tunnel or the Staten Island Bridges, or to take mass transit.

The New Jersey-bound lanes of the Holland Tunnel remain open. In addition, the Port Authority has postponed scheduled nighttime construction work on the eastbound lanes of the Outerbridge Crossing until further notice.

The Port Authority is working closely with the Jersey City Fire Department, and will provide updates on the situation at the Holland Tunnel as conditions warrant.
