EASTBOUND HOLLAND TUNNEL FOR E-ZPASS CUSTOMERS CONTINUES AT LEAST THROUGH FRIDAY MORNING COMMUTE

Date: Mar 28, 2002
Press Release Number: 30-2002

Additional E-ZPass Lane Scheduled to Open Tonight

Manhattan-bound lanes of the Holland Tunnel will continue to be accessible for E-ZPass customers until further notice, the Port Authority announced today. Cash-paying customers are not permitted and must use the Lincoln Tunnel, Staten Island bridges and the George Washington Bridge. Commuters also can use new ferry services from Hoboken to the World Financial Center and Hoboken to Pier 11.

E-ZPass only access will not change prior to Friday morning’s commute; however, an additional lane is scheduled to open tonight. Due to the fire and ongoing demolition of a private building in Jersey City, complete reopening of all eastbound lanes remains uncertain.

Motorists are still encouraged to use mass transit. Commuters wanting up-to-date information can call 800 221-9903, tune in to media traffic reports for the latest news, or consult the Port Authority’s Web site, www.panynj.gov. Motorists are reminded that the single-occupancy vehicle ban remains in effect from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. weekdays at the Holland Tunnel. Also, no commercial vehicles are allowed at anytime at the Holland Tunnel.

The Port Authority will resume scheduled nighttime construction today on the eastbound lanes of the Outerbridge Crossing from 11:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.
