Installation of steel columns will make tower the tallest building in New York
On Monday, April 30, 2012, at approximately 2:00 p.m., the Port Authority will mark a major milestone in the construction of One World Trade Center with the installation of steel columns that will make the skyscraper the tallest building in New York. When the columns are put in place, the building will officially surpass the height of the Empire State Building, which currently is the tallest structure in New York City.

Media check-in will begin at 12:30 p.m. Any media arriving after 1:15 p.m. will NOT be allowed onto the site, no exceptions. Access to the site is an involved process and will require extra time to navigate the construction site. Media must have press credentials to be allowed on the site.
Media must wear proper footwear. NO high-heel or open-toed shoes. MUST wear sturdy footwear, ideally work boots. No shorts or skirts, all must wear long pants. Safety gear (hard hat, safety vest, and protective eye wear) will be provided at check-in and MUST be worn. ANYONE not dressed properly will not be allowed access to the site.
One World Trade Center, 71st Floor
Media will check-in adjacent to the PATH entrance on West Broadway and Vesey Street. After safety gear is distributed media will be escorted to the 71st floor by Port Authority staff. A media pool has been established to cover the installation of the steel columns on the tower’s top floor. Video monitors on the 71st floor will provide feed of the installation of the steel columns being lowered into place. In addition, the media pool will cover the press conference for those outlets that are unable to attend.
