More than 100 K-9 Units From Across the U. S. Will Gather
At Liberty State Park to Honor Fallen Comrade

Port Authority police dog Sirius will be honored by K-9 units from across North America at a memorial ceremony on Wednesday, April 24, at 11 a.m. at Liberty State Park in Jersey City, N.J. The five-year-old yellow Labrador Retriever, who was an explosive detection dog, was killed in the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center.

The event will include a presentation of colors by the Port Authority Honor Guard and Port Authority Police Pipes and Drums Band. There will be a 21-gun salute by the Edison, N.J. Police Department. A procession of dogs and police officers representing more than 100 K-9 units from across the continent are expected to file pass Sirius\' cremated remains. A portrait of Sirius by artist Debbie Stonebraker will be unveiled. Sirius\' partner, Port Authority Police Officer David Lim, will attend with his new K-9 partner, Sprig.

\"Every police officer in a K-9 unit knows that a well-trained police dog can save lives,\" said Charles D. DeRienzo, Port Authority\'s Superintendent of Police and Director of Public Safety. \"This ceremony not only honors the memory of Sirius, but it also pays
homage to thousands of police dogs who play vital roles in battling terrorists, smugglers and other dangerous criminals.\"
The terrorist attacks claimed the lives of 37 members of the Port Authority Police Department and 38 of the agency\'s civilian staff members.

Credentialed media covering this event should go to Liberty State Park\'s north field. Follow signs to the Central Railroad of New Jersey\'s Terminal to locate the field. For additional information, contact Alan Hicks of the Port Authority Public Affairs Department at 212 435-7777.
