Students from Yantacaw Elementary in Nutley, N.J., will donate a replica of the World Trade Center built out of Legos to the Port Authority Police Department on Friday, May 17 at 10 a.m. at police headquarters in Jersey City.
The students, members of the school’s Lego Club, began working on the project in October. A volunteer with the club, Arlene Lobay, is married to retired Port Authority Police Officer Bill Lobay.
The students have strong emotional ties in their choice of the World Trade Center for their project. They lived less than 10 miles away from the Twin Towers, which were visible from many of the students’ homes. Also, Nutley was the hometown of Port Authority Police Lieutenant Robert Cirri, one of 37 Port Authority Police officers and commanders who died on September 11.
