TRAFFIC ADVISORY - MAJOR PAINTING PROJECT REQUIRES OVERNIGHT LANE CLOSINGS ON GEORGE WASHINGTON BRIDGE’S UPPER LEVEL ON JULY 12-13
Date: Jul 11, 2002
Press Release Number: 78-2002
Three upper-level lanes in each direction of the George Washington Bridge will be closed overnight this weekend, leaving only one lane open in each direction during the late night and morning hours. These closings are required while crews install steel beams along the bridge’s New Jersey tower to build a platform for the next stage of a bridge repainting project.
The upper-level lanes will close from 10 p.m. Friday, July 12, to 10 a.m. the following morning, and from 10 p.m. Saturday, July 13, to 10 a.m. the following morning. A similar closure may be repeated on Friday, July 26.
Throughout the night, there will be periodic holds of upper level traffic in both directions as the beams are installed. To avoid delays, all motorists, with the exception of commercial vehicles, are advised to use the bridge’s lower level during this time. Travelers should also consider using the Lincoln Tunnel as an alternate.
