Statement by Jack G. Sinagra, Chairman, And Charles A. Gargano, Vice Chairman, The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, Regarding the Renaming of Newark International Airport

Date: Aug 22, 2002
Press Release Number: 89-2002

The Port Authority commends Governors McGreevey and Pataki for their leadership and their commitment to doing everything possible to commemorate the tragic events of September 11. The name Liberty International Airport at Newark would be a powerful and permanent way to honor the countless Americans who have given their lives defending liberty at home and abroad – particularly the more than 3,000 heroes who died on September 11. The Port Authority will work with Governors McGreevey and Pataki, our Board of Commissioners and the City of Newark to see that this fitting tribute becomes a reality.
