Statement by Jack G. Sinagra, Chairman
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey
On Newark City Council’s Final Approval
Of the Airport and Seaport Lease Agreement
Date: Oct 17, 2002
Press Release Number: 108-2002
I commend Mayor James and the City Council for their leadership in concluding a lease agreement for the Newark airport and seaport.
The extended lease is fair and equitable. It will ensure the long-term success of the airport and seaport, which will help the Port Authority plan future investments, improve service and strengthen the region’s economy and quality of life for our citizens.
The Port Authority is also proud that a new name for the airport – Newark Liberty International Airport -- was established as part of this agreement to honor the heroes who have fought to protect our freedom and the heroes of September 11, and to underscore Newark’s strength and leadership in this region.
The Port Authority looks forward to continuing a close and productive working relationship with the City of Newark to ensure a strong future for the airport and seaport.
