Statement by Joseph J. Seymour, Executive Director The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Re: Mayor Bloomberg’s Plan for Downtown Manhattan

Date: Dec 12, 2002
Press Release Number: 136-2002

The Port Authority enthusiastically supports Mayor Bloomberg\'s vision for Lower Manhattan. We are particularly pleased to hear the Mayor\'s vision for a world-class transit hub at the World Trade Center site. This investment outlined by the Mayor, which is consistent with the Port Authority’s own cost projections, will restore and expand vital mass-transit connections to Lower Manhattan, while providing funding for necessary infrastructure, such as an underground bus terminal, new street circulation systems, pedestrian concourses and permanent reinforcement of the slurry wall at the World Trade Center site.

We are also very happy to hear the Mayor\'s call for new rail connections from Lower Manhattan to Kennedy and Newark Liberty International Airports. We look forward to working with Mayor Bloomberg, Governor Pataki, Governor McGreevey and all relevant agencies to see how we can make the Mayor\'s ambitious, visionary goals a reality.
